Westborough Schedules Public Ballot Test Ahead Of State Primary

WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough election officials will conduct a public test of the town’s ballot-counting system ahead of the Sept. 1 state primary.

The testing will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, in Memorial Hall on the third floor of Town Hall, 34 West Main St., according to Town Clerk Deborah Ledoux. The public may attend.

Under state law, clerks must prepare marked test ballots to check the accuracy of computerized counting equipment, including whether the system rejects ballots containing too many votes in a race.

The state primary will be held Tuesday, Sept. 1. Westborough polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Westborough High School.

The voter registration deadline is Aug. 22. Early voting will run from Aug. 22 through Aug. 28 and applications for mail-in ballots must reach local election offices by 5 p.m. Aug. 25.

Unenrolled voters may participate in the primary by choosing either a Democratic or Republican ballot. Doing so does not change a voter’s party affiliation, according to the Elections Division.
