Westborough Veterans' Poppy Sale Benefits Local Groups
The American Legion Post 163 and VFW veterans collected donations at local supermarkets around Veterans Day.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — A Veterans Day donation drive mounted by Westborough veterans groups will benefit three local causes.
The Westborough American Legion Post 163 and VFW veterans sold cloth poppy flowers at the local Roche Brothers and Stop & Shop stores over Veterans Day weekend. The sale generated about $1,500, which was divided evenly among the Westborough Food Pantry, senior center and the Knights of Columbus, according to American Legion member Joe Teceno.
The red poppy is the official symbol of the American Legion, and is linked to World War I. During and after the war, huge fields of red poppies bloomed along the Western Font in the French and Belgian countryside after the poppy seeds were churned up and fed by the war.
