Westborough's BORO Sugar Shack Gets Tips For Pet Handling
The students who run the store were briefed on how to safely handle pets by the Baypath Humane Society.
WESTBOROUGH, MA — Students working at Westborough's BORO Sugar Shack did more than just sell candy on Wednesday. Thanks to the Baypath Humane Society, students got a crash course in how to safely and properly handle pets.
The BORO Sugar Shack is a candy store created by Westborough Public School students in collaboration with the Bridging Over to Right Opportunities Program. The shop supports students between the ages of 18-22 with special abilities to successfully transition into adulthood. The BORO program provides highly individualized educational and vocational programming delivered in an integrated learning environment and a "sweet" community setting.
On Wednesday, the Baypath Humane Society's Community Liaison Michelle K gave students at the shack a presentation on pet safety including an explanation on what pets are, how to handle them and what certain behaviors mean. The presentation also included how to avoid bites and other injuries that have serious repercussions for animals and humans.
