Nine adventurous Westborough Girl Scouts and three adult leaders drove 2.5 hrs up to AMC Cardigan Lodge early Saturday morning on Oct 11.

After refilling water bottles, the group immediately set out on the very challenging Holt Trail. The girls did an amazing job, even though several were clearly pushed to their physical & emotional limit. Boy, were they happy when they got to the top and got to enjoy the view. Then everyone headed down the Manning Trail, completing a 5.5 mile hike 17 minutes before dinner at 6 p.m. (a little tighter timing than we would have liked!).

After dinner the girls and the leaders played some night games (star tipping and flashlight tag), and then charades, before everyone collapsed into bed. But after a good night’s sleep, and a great breakfast, they were ready to do it again.

Sunday was a leisurely amble to the magical Welton Falls, where one brave girl managed full immersion (cold cold cold!).

What an extraordinary group of girls – hopefully they now have some idea that they are capable of much more than they realize. Thanks so much to AMC/YOP for making it possible for us to stay in the Lodge.
