WHS Boys Tennis Reaches Semis

The Westborough High School boys tennis team defeated visiting St. Peter-Marian, 5-0, in an MIAA Boys Team Tennis Central Division 1 quarter final match, on Friday, according to the tournament website.

Westborough advanced to the semi-finals against Shrewsbury at 5 p.m. Monday, at a site to be announced. Shrewsbury defeated visiting Tantasqua, 5-0, in a quarter final on Friday.

Monday's Shrewsbury-Westborough winner advances to the finals at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Algonquin.

The Rangers (14-2) are seeded second in the nine-team bracket. St. Peter-Marian (9-6) is seeded seventh. Tantasqua (10-6) is seeded sixth. Shrewsbury (13-3) is seeded third. All four teams received first round byes.

The Westborough High School girls tennis team, meanwhile, is seeded first in the MIAA Girls Team Tennis Central Division 1 tournament.

The Rangers (14-2) received a first round bye, and will open the tourney with a quarter final against Clinton at home at 3 p.m. today. Clinton defeated host Marlborough, 4-1, in a first round match Friday.

The Clinton-Westborough winner advances to the semi-finals against today's Wachusett-Nashoba quarter final winner at 3 p.m. Monday.

Clinton (10-6) is seeded ninth in the 11-team tournament. Marlborough (10-6) is seeded eighth. Nashoba (12-4) is seeded fourth, while Wachusett (13-5) is seeded fifth.

The Westborough High varsity boys lacrosse team will face St. John's in the 2013 MIAA Boys Lacrosse Central Division 2 quarter finals at 3:30 p.m. today at St. John's.

The winner advances to the semi-finals against tonight's Algonquin-Littleton quarter final winner.

St. John's defeated visiting Leominster, 20-1, in a first round game Thursday.

Westborough finished the regular season at 10-8. The Rangers are seeded ninth in the 17-team tournament. 

St. John's (15-3) is seeded first. Leominster (9-9) is seeded 17th. Littleton (16-2) is seeded fourth. Algonquin (14-6) is seeded fifth.
