WHS Girls Tennis Hosting Semi Final

Rangers defeat Clinton in quarter final Saturday.

The Westborough High School girls tennis team advanced to the MIAA Girls Team Tennis Central Division 1 tournament semi final round with a 5-0 quarter final win over visiting Clinton on Saturday, according to the MIAA website.

The Rangers will host Wachusett in the semi final, at 2:30 p.m. Monday.

The winner advances to the sectional final at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's against Monday's Shrewsbury-St. Peter-Marian semi final winner.

Wachusett advanced to the semi final by defeating Nashoba, 3-2, in a quarter final on Saturday.

The Rangers (14-2) received a first round bye. Clinton (10-6) is seeded ninth in the 11-team tournament. Nashoba (12-4) is seeded fourth. Wachusett (13-5) is seeded fifth. Shrewsbury (14-2) is seeded second. St. Peter-Marian (14-2) is seeded third.

Meanwhile, the Westborough High varsity boys lacrosse team lost to St. John's, 12-7, in the 2013 MIAA Boys Lacrosse Central Division 2 quarter finals on Saturday at St. John's.

St. John's advances to the semi-finals against Algonquin at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Foley Stadium. Algonquin defeated Littleton, 7-2, in a quarter final Saturday.

Westborough finished the regular season at 10-8. The Rangers are seeded ninth in the 17-team tournament. 

St. John's (15-3) is seeded first. Leominster (9-9) is seeded 17th. Littleton (16-2) is seeded fourth. Algonquin (14-6) is seeded fifth.
