WHS Robotics team is looking for mentors and volunteers
We have technical and non-technical roles.
Team 4048, also known as "Redshift", is Westborough High School's robotics team. Our core mission is to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education using robotics as a learning vehicle. We also indirectly prepare students for college and beyond by helping them develop real world skills. We have a small number of mentors and volunteers, many of whom have or had children on the team. But our team is growing and we need your help.
While robotics is the central function of the team's season, there is also a lot that is non-technical in nature. For example we need students to write articles on the Patch to promote the team; we could use a mentor to help with writing skills. On the technical side we need mentors with hardware and software skills. The robot needs to be fabricated so anyone with machining experience would be a great addition to the mentoring team. There are really a lot of possibilities, and the more mentors we have with more diverse skills, the more we can teach the students. This is an excellent opportunity to give back to the community. It's also a great way to share your passion and skills to the youngsters in our town - great for retirees!
In the near term, we need a volunteer to help with fundraising and mentor(s) who can work with Arduinos. Our team web site has some additional information on mentoring and volunteering [Team4048 Web Site - http://team4048.org/about_mentors.html]. It also has links to our YouTube and Facebook pages.

There are many more details than I can write in this article so I'm going to provide a link to the FIRST web site. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is the 501(c)(3) charity under which we compete. Their web site provides a solid foundation for understanding the work we do on the team.

If any of this sounds intriguing and piques your interest even in the slightest bit, feel free to contact the team via team web site. See www.team4048.org. Some time in September we will hold a team kickoff meeting to get the new students on the 2018-19 team up to speed and then, as they say, it's off to the races!
