WHS Tennis Teams' Seasons End

Both Westborough High School tennis teams are sectional runners-up this season after losing in the finals Wednesday.

Both finals involved the tournaments' top two teams.

The Westborough girls lost to Shrewsbury, 3-2, in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Team Tennis Central Division 1 final at St. John's, according to the tournament website.

The Rangers (14-2) were seeded first, and Shrewsbury (14-2) was seeded second. Each team received a first round bye in the 11-team tournament.

The Westborough boys lost to St. John's, 5-0, in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Team Tennis Central Division 1 final at Algonquin, according to the tournament website.

The Rangers (14-2 regular season) were seeded second in the nine-team bracket. St. John's (19-1) was seeded first.

Meanwhile, the Westborough High School girls tennis team faces Shrewsbury in the MIAA Girls Team Tennis Central Division 1 tournament final at 3:30 p.m. at St. John's.

Shrewsbury defeated St. Peter-Marian, 4-1, in a semi final Tuesday, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

Westborough advanced to the finals with a 4-1 semi final win over visiting Wachusett on Monday, according to the MIAA website.
