Woman Killed in Hit and Run in Early Morning Highway Crash

Police followed car fluid to find the suspected car, and driver, involved in the crash.

A woman was killed while walking on Route 190 early this morning in a hit-and-run accident in Worcester.

State police began getting calls around 3:40 a.m. on Sunday reporting that a body was on the roadway on the northbound side of Route 190, near Exit 1. The victim was unresponsive when police found her, and appeared to have been struck by a motor vehicle.

Worcester EMS brought the victim to UMass Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

State police said troopers and Worcester police officers found the driver and the vehicle that struck the woman after they followed a trail of automotive fluid from the scene that led them to a residence on Whitmarsh Ave. in Worcester. The vehicle, which is a sedan, was impounded and the driver, an adult male, has been interviewed. The vehicle is being examined by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.

Facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation, said State Police, including how the victim got on to the roadway.

Lanes were closed until late morning.

No charges have been filed, but an investigation is ongoing.

The woman’s name is not known at this time.
