All-Star Tourney Another Success for Westford Youth Basketball Association

To date, the organization has raised over $100,000 for Westford schools.

Since its start 20 years ago, the Westford Youth Basketball Association's annual "Guy Coraccio All-Star Tournament" has put up some impressive numbers:

  • More than $100,000 has been raised for Westford schools and students
  • 320 games have been played
  • More than 3,750 All-Stars have participated

The 20th version of the event was held this weekend at Blanchard Middle School, and organizers said it was another success.

“This tournament creates an opportunity for many very strong players to receive recognition for all of their hard work and talent," said Guy Coraccio.

Coraccio developed the tournament as a way to recognize players who have excelled in their town leagues but are not on travel or select teams. Many players come back as coaches.

Here are the results of this weekend's tournament, which also featured teams from Chelmsford, Billerica, and Tyngsboro:

Since 2001 alone, the WYBA has given more than 120 college scholarships to Westford Academy seniors and more than $20,000 in basketball-related gifts to Westford schools. In addition, the organization uses funds generated by the All Star tournament to pay WYBA registration fees for children who could not otherwise afford to play recreational basketball in the town.

The WYBA thanked the veteran tournament committee, patrons, and businesses that supported the event. There were many volunteers, including high school students.

The committee consists of Westford residents Diane Chrysikos, Lisa Hyslip, Joe Mario, Fran English, Judy Victory, Tracy LeBlanc Cook, Mike Leary, Bill Breslin, Michele Walker, Debbie Teal, Ken Teal and Guy Coraccio.

Tournament announcers and raffle coordinators were Jillian Chrysikos, Taryn Chrysikos and Danielle Victory.

Sponsors include Bertucci’s of Chelmsford, BJs Wholesale Club, and Printing Solutions of Westford.
