Today's riddle: Why do fish live in salt water? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Historic Westford Home rebuilt by local residents through global initiatives (westfordcat.org) — A historic farmhouse at 70 Boston Road has been rebuilt into two affordable condo units, and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell is now accepting applications from families with strong ties to Westford. The project, completed during a global Build Day with Dawoodi Bohra volunteers, highlights interfaith collaboration and Westford's push for more affordable housing. Applications are due August 28 at Habitat's Tadmuck Road office.
2. Woman airlifted to hospital after crashing into two cars, tree on Westford roadway (westfordcat.org) — A 74-year-old Chelmsford woman was airlifted to a hospital after her car struck two vehicles and then a tree on South Chelmsford Road in Westford, briefly closing the roadway. Westford police, fire, and public works crews responded, and the crash remains under investigation by the department's Patrol and Special Services divisions.
3. Middlesex Sheriff's Office Celebrates Successful 25th Season of its Youth Public Safety Academy (thereadingpost.com) — Westford kids were among more than 500 cadets who spent a week this summer at the Middlesex Sheriff's Youth Public Safety Academy in Chelmsford, learning hands-on lessons in law enforcement, fire safety, first aid, and more. The free program, now in its 25th year, brought together public safety partners from across the region and gave local children a close-up look at potential careers in policing, firefighting, and emergency services.
4. Westford Teacher's Circus Song in Award-Nominated Novel (westfordcat.org) — A beloved former Westford second-grade teacher, Marcia Brown, has seen her locally inspired song "The Circus Train" included in an award-nominated historical novel about the 1911 Stony Brook circus train derailment. Brown wrote the song while teaching Westford history at the Frost School, drawing on local research and family stories to bring roaming circus animals in town vividly to life for students.
