Arthur T. Demoulas to Workers: You Saved Market Basket

Arthur T. Demoulas, who on Wednesday gained back control of Market Basket, thanked thousands of workers during an emotional rally Thursday at the company’s Tewksbury headquarters.

The grocery chain’s 25,000 workers staged a revolt last month, demanding Arthur T.’s return. The former CEO was ousted earlier this year amid an epic family feud with his cousin, Arthur S. Demoulas.

On Wednesday, the company’s board agreed to sell a majority stake to Arthur T.

“It’s great to be together again,” Demoulas told workers Thursday morning. “You displayed ... an unwavering dedication in your desire to protect the culture of your company.”

Workers could be heard saying “We love you!” during the rally.

“I love you all,” he said. “Thank you very, very much.”

Demoulas had said the company’s board retaliated against him for refusing to cut worker compensation.

Workers urged customers to boycott the chain’s 71 stores in northern New England during the revolt. Stores reopened Thursday morning and delivery trucks were en route to stock shelves, which have been bare.
