2 of 5 : Great Web Sites Offer Help and Resources for Family Caregivers

Here's my next choice in a series of blog posts aimed at revealing the best of what is on the web for family caregivers.

It's a tough thing to narrow down so many great web resources for family cargivers to a "Top Five Pick" -- but that's my goal!

Here's my second selection in choosing great websites which offer resources, information and support to family caregivers.

The Family Caregiver Alliance (www.caregiver.org) began as a California-based
resource and help center meeting the needs of family caregivers but with the
help of the web, the organization offers a wide variety of information to
family caregivers across the U.S.

This is one of my favorite sites because it just keeps getting better and better.

The links all work, the content is vast and the information is all up-to-date.

When visiting the homepage, be sure to click on the “Caregiving Info and Advice” tab then move to “Hot Topics”.  You’ll find information ranging from how to make a determination about a good residential care option as well as informative articles dealing with everything from family tensions to sexuality to how to organize legal and medical paperwork.

Another favorite tool of mine is the glossary which gives clear and concise
explanations to the terminology of long-term and elder care services. If you’re
not certain about the difference between Medicaid and Medicare or if you have
no idea what IADL or CCRC might mean, then you’ll find the glossary a
tremendous help.

The Family Caregiver Alliance website also offers online support groups. Current groups include a Caregiver Support Group, a LGBT caregiver group and  a group for individuals coping with Huntington’s Disease & Movement Disorders.

Bonus feature
Free archived webinars add yet another of dimension of caregiver support
and education.

tip:
Use the search box on the FCA website to narrow your search – the site
has many resources and search terms such as “dementia” or “veterans” or
“respite” will help speed your journey into the depths of what this site has to
offer.

It’s  wonderful web world!
