5 Spooky Wines for a Grown-Up Halloween

5 Spooky Wines for a Grown-Up Halloween from Vintage 1969.

If you're post being-a-kid or pre having-a-kid, Halloween on a Wednesday is no fun. Going out mid-week was only appropriate as an undergrad and most of us have work in the morning anyway. What's the solution? Have some spooky fun at home! In between mobs of adorable trick-or-treaters at your door, grab some Hallo-wines and get tasting.

Here are my choices for a scary (but classy) Halloween tasting:

Reds

Charles Smith Wines The Velvet Devil Merlot
No wine is spookier than a deep, dark, blood-red merlot. Tap into your inner-vampire and get sipping on this classic varietal.

Black Cat Vineyard 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon
A black cat crossing your path is considered bad luck, but a Black Cat Vineyard wine on October 31st is nothing to worry about. If you want to splurge, this $55.00 Cab is the perfect wine to try on All Hallow's Eve.

Gray Ghost Vineyards Cabernet Franc
Boo! Don't let the name scare you, deep berry flavors make this unfiltered wine rich and bold.

White

Elk Creek Vineyards Ghostly White Sweet Mellow White
If I had a restaurant, this is what I'd serve as my "house white" on Halloween. It is a mix of the Cayuga grape and the Vidal Blanc grape and is nice and fruity with a truly frightening bottle.

Three Lakes Winery Pumpkin Wine
On this day of jack-o-lanterns, kick back with a pumpkin wine. It started as an October-only wine, but is now sold year-round due to its popularity. But let's face it, there's no better day to try it than today!

Witch Creek Winery Cool Cat Sparkling Wine
Halloween IS a holiday, so celebrate in style with some sparkling wine. This great bottle is a blend of Chardonnay and French Colombard.

Grab a bottle, enjoy the night and learn a little about wine tasting over at my blog Vintage 1969! Happy Halloween!
