Essential Skills : Families Coping with Dementia
Learn strategies for coping with the changes, behaviors and safety concerns related to helping someone with Alzheimer's.

When it comes to helping a loved one who has a dementia diagnosis, the challenges can seem daunting.
That’s why the Alzheimer’s Association is offering a three-part series geared to address some of the most common questions regarding how to improve communication, understand new behaviors and how to manage care at home for a loved one who has been diagnosed with a dementia illness.
The series titled “Essential Skills for Family Caregivers” will begin on Friday, November 2nd and run for three consecutive weeks from 10:00 a.m. to noon. The series is open to family caregivers at no cost but a pre-registration is required.

The program will be held at the Cameron Senior Center at 20 Pleasant Street in Westford.

The three sessions being offered will address these topics among others:
- Learning how to communicate in a way that minimizes frustrations and avoids disagreements.
- Learning how actions or behaviors can be used as expressing needs and how to understand these messages and make changes.
- Learning how to adapt your home environment and make it dementia-safe and supportive.
