My Own Victory Garden

My Foray Into Creating A Victory Garden

Welcome to my Foray Into Growing My Own Vegetables.

Why a vegetable garden? I can't honestly answer that question. My grandparents had one, my parents had one, my neighbors have one. My wife has a beautiful flower garden. I never really had an interest in either, but then something clicked in my brain after 42 summers on this planet. I want to grow vegetables!

This blog will be my journal chronicling the ups and downs of my home garden. From plotting the land spot, fencing off , soil treatment, planting, weeding etc.. and then the Pièce de résistance , VEGGIES! So hopefully I will have more ups than downs mind you.

A little history for ya:

  • Victory Gardens have been around since World War 1, actually as early as the 16th Century. These gardens were to help the war effort and try to eliminate food shortages. Hence “Victory”.
  • I believe they became more prevalent in World War 2 and the Victory Gardens were popping up everywhere. My grandparents had a Victory Garden during that period. I am a huge WWII buff so maybe that is where I am getting the inspiration. Yes, I am sure of it...:-)

Anyway, I do hope you follow my adventure. I would love to receive tips if at all possible so my Victory Garden will be successful!
