Registration is OPEN for 4th Annual Free to Breathe Chelmsford Event

Registration is officially open for the 4th Annual Free to Breathe Chelmsford 5K run/walk and 1 mile walk that is taking place at the Harrington Elementary School on Sunday, September 22, 2013.

You may remember reading my Patch blog posts last year about the planning of the 3rd Annual Free to Breathe Chelmsford event. Well, I’m very excited to announce that planning for the 4th Annual event is well underway and registration is officially open for the event that is taking place at the Harrington Elementary School on Sunday, September 22, 2013. In addition to the 5k run/walk we have also added a 1 mile route and this year’s event is sure to be even bigger and better!

For those of you that don’t know, lung cancer claims more lives each year than breast, prostate and colon cancers COMBINED. I had no idea about this scary statistic until my mom was diagnosed with lung cancer in January of 2011. Shortly after her diagnosis I began looking for ways that I could help to change this. I found out about the inaugural Free to Breathe event in Chelmsford that was held a few months prior and was part of the planning committee for the 2nd annual event. Last year, I took over the role of event chair for the event and I am looking forward to chairing the event again this year. Although my mom unfortunately passed away in July 2012, I am dedicated to continuing to organize this event in her memory.

Last year our event in Chelmsford brought together over 700 participants and volunteers who raised over $105,000, acting as a huge contributor to the $2.3 million the National Lung Cancer Partnership raised through the Free to Breathe program in 2012. The Partnership recently announced their bold new vision to double lung cancer survival by 2022 and we are extremely excited to see how much we can raise this year to help make that vision a reality!
