SIDEBOARD: Top Ten (10) List – Ways to Avoid CANCER
Cancer is not a bad hand of cards that some unlucky people get dealt. You can remove many bad cards from the deck!

(This is the SIDEBOARD to FOOD for THOUGHT: Double Feature Let’s Talk about Milk and Please DON’T Become a Vegetarian!)
I’d say I hope to make Letterman proud, but this list is no laughing matter. It may make some jump for joy though; so, without further ado quit smoking and then…

10. Eat a piece of fruit with breakfast and/or snack every day.

Preferably eat whole fresh fruit (not that the “whole” fruit can’t be cut up :) ), or, on occasion, eat unsweetened dried fruit. Notice it does not say a serving of fruit – juice, jam, pie, fruity processed food and breakfast bars don’t count this week – store bought versions rarely count anyway.
9. Actually eat vegetables with lunch every day (other than corn & potatoes).
Only you know how often you skip this. Be honest with yourself.
(PS Remember corn is not a vegetable it’s a grain) You can, of course, have fruit with lunch instead, if you want to have vegetables with breakfast.
8. Pile at least half your dinner plate with vegetables (and eat them).
Don’t worry, you can still fulfill all of your nutritional requirements including calcium and protein.
7. Eat a raw vegetable every day.
The easiest way to do this is to have a salad as part of lunch or dinner every day – not that you can’t have cut veggie sticks instead, or even easier, just snack on a cucumber like a banana or eat a bell pepper the way you would an apple. (I had an aunt who ate onions that way! Don’t worry; I’m not asking you to go that far.)
6. Get “fresh air” – in both senses of the words.
Support things that do not pollute the Earth, then go out in nature and move around via your own power.
5. De-stress, & get a good night’s sleep regularly.
Sleep & the mitigation of stress are both underappreciated. They have a huge effect on your health, and they work in combination to boost the effectiveness of your other healthy habits.
4. Increase COLOR-SATURATED VEGETABLE & FRUIT consumption.
Eat a vegetable rainbow every week and every weekend – at the least.
3. Learn to love legumes & plant proteins, and reduce meat consumption proportionally.
(What meat is left absolutely must NOT be antibiotic, hormone, pesticide, herbicide, insecticide, chemical & drug laden meat that is almost devoid of omega 3s due to eating GMO grain instead of green grass – animals need their vegetables too!)
2. Increase GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLE consumption.
It is a myth that they haven’t found a cure for most cancers; it just gets administered too late. (OK, it’s more of a vaccine with daily boosters, but either way, much cancer suffering is preventable.) Natural , micronutrients and antioxidants are proving more powerful than imagined – so long as they are not being administered with large doses of cancer growth promoting proteins and as long as they are not being watered down by nutrient deficient foods.
AND THE NUMBER ONE TIP TO AVOID CANCER IS…
1. Reduce dairy consumption by at least 75%.
What’s the big deal – especially if I use low-fat milk products? Dairy protein can be as big a problem as the fat. (Read FOOD for THOUGHT: Let’s talk about Milk)
NOTE:
Please don’t ignore this advice because you have a cancer gene or because cancer runs in your family. Neither of these guarantee your getting cancer unless you turn the gene on and feed it. Instead fight it before it starts. For the most part what’s good for cancer is bad for you and vice versa.
QUOTE of the Moment:
Men dig their graves with their own Teeth and die more by those fated Instruments than the Weapons of their Enemies.
