Special Treat and Wonderful Gift

A special Mother's Day gift from Westford students that at the same time give back to the community.

Seventeen sixth to ninth grade students from Blanchard and Westford Academy performed on Mother's Day at Emeritus at Meadow Lodge, a retirement community in North Chelmsford. The performance included over an hour of  Chinese music, classical piano pieces, classical chamber music, contemporary American light concert piece and pop music. The residents enjoyed this special treat and the parents appreciated this wonderful Mother's Day gift from their children, who at the same time were giving back to the community.

Most of these musicians started their instruments in third grade while in school. The Westford school district has a wonderful and inspiring strings program, and many students have eventually started to take private lessons. It is wonderful to see such achievement within such a short amount of time. This shows just how talented and hard working these students are. The students meet every week for their chamber music practice and are coached by different coaches. These chamber groups were formed anywhere from five months ago to over three years ago. All of them have performed with very high standards.

Besides performing at local senior communities, some of the students and groups have also performed at area Music for Food programs.
