Why a NEW Fire Station in Westford !?!
Does Westford really need another new fire station?

In March 2007, Suzanne St Gelais, died in a house fire on Beacon St. The closest fire station, George Rogers Station 3, built in 2002, was UNSTAFFED! This station is approximatelyy 1 mile away from Beacon St.
Though the Rogers Station is now staffed, mind you by the minimum 2 firemen (thank you firefighters), I am utterly confused at the idea of why the town would want to build yet another new fire station on the border of Carlisle? Clearly there are staffing / budget issues with our current stations.
There have also been constant and well publicized 'tug of wars' with the FD (and PD) with the town about salary raises, new equipment, staffing, benefits, etc...

Westford continues its trend of wanting things that are not 'needed', but maybe just wanted. Examples: Sidewalk$ from the Common to Minot's corner anyone? Turf field$, or better yet turf field$ with no driveway on Nutting Rd? Or the crown jewel Cameron Senior center whose renovations were denied at $2million but approved at $6million!?!?
Westford also seems to push through projects without really thinking about the long term effects it will have on the town. Examples: the Graniteville Woods project is adding 5% to the towns population alone = more buses, bigger classes, more DPW plowing, salt/sand, police patrols. Turf fields are NOT maintenance free (imagine how many mowers and fertilizer you could buy with a million dollars+?). East Boston camps, once donated to the town for public use are now becoming privatized, how American!

I know this all might sound slightly angry, but in a time of fiscal distress, it is definitely very annoying to see your town make one questionable decision after another...thanks for reading, I look forward to your thoughts! Go Grey Ghosts!
