Bruins Mania Bringing More Sales For One Westford Business
At Olympia Sports on Littleton Road, the B's success on the ice has translated into success in the cash registers, a trend that may continue into the future.
The Boston Bruins return to the TD Garden tonight for Game Six of the Stanley Cup Finals, and if tonight’s matchup is anything like the previous home games of the series, local businesses in the Hub will see an extra $5 million from tonight alone according to recent estimates from the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Certainly, the B’s quest for the cup probably will not bring in an extra $5 million to the Westford economy today, but it definitely has increased profits at Olympia Sports on Littleton Road.
There, the Bruins mania has created a run on Bruins related merchandise, something that store manager Eric Ciotti believes has nearly tripled the store’s business in recent weeks.

During his time at Olympia, Ciotti has nothing to compare the recent rush of Black and Gold sales to given the fact that in past years, his store has never sold Bruins merchandise this late in the year.
However, the buzz he’s seen is somewhat comparable what he sees with Red Sox gear, and if they can bring home the cup, that spike might become permanent.

“It’s never been like this before with the Bruins or pretty much any other team outside of the Red Sox, although this is pretty close,” said Ciotti. “But if the Bruins can get a championship, I think the Red Sox’ dominating the sports focus of this area will change. Boston will go back to being hockey town again, and you’ll see the effects here.”
When it comes to eclipsing the Red Sox, Stacie Green of Littleton believes that trip back to being a hockey loving area is already here, regardless of what might happen in the finals.
Between playing in an adult league of her own and taking her seven year old daughter Kenzie out of school due to a temperature brought on by “Bruins Fever”, something that could only be cured by getting autographs from the players as they boarded the plane to Vancouver, one could say that Green is the quintessential hockey mom.
Still, up until now, even she’d agree that the Red Sox were probably a bigger deal here in Massachusetts, even if they weren’t to her. No longer.
“I have absolute faith that they’re going to win it, and this run is exactly what the Bruins needed to get back into the hearts and minds of people around here,” said Green, who took Kenzie to buy Bruins merchandise at the Littleton Road Olympia Sports last week. “And people are excited everywhere I’ve seen, even here in Westford.”
The puck drops at 8:00 p.m tonight, while Olympia Sports is open from 9:00 a.m to 9:00 p.m.
