Dennis Galvin for Board of Selectmen
Letter in support of Dennis Galvin for Board of Selectmen
Dennis Galvin has been committed to public service his entire life. He has the professional experience, fiscal responsibility, and has demonstrated the leadership qualities that the citizens of Westford need on the Board of Selectmen.
Galvin understands Westford and it's character, and he is deeply committed to our town and very concerned with how it will develop in the future. For example, he is wholly opposed to the controversial asphalt plant, and from the beginning has opposed the plant's application to the Planning Board.
Contrary to rhetoric that some may be hearing, Dennis supports a fair and equitable salary and benefits package to all town employees, and that includes teachers. It is true that he is opposed to the proposed tax override, but that does not equate to not wanting to pay the teacher's equitably. The teachers' salaries should have already been included in the existing budget. It's unfair that the teachers are dependent on the roll of the dice at the ballot box for their raise.

To simply rely on a tax increase to meet the town budget is an unsustainable practice. In recent years we have seen large portions of open space in our town become developed for commercial properties. All of the increased tax revenue from those commercial enterprises should have allowed Westford to meet their budgetary requirements. After all, other towns can include equitable and fair pay for teachers in their annual budgets; why not Westford? The citizens of Westford already shoulder a high tax rate. We need and deserve town leaders with a strong voice and fiscal responsibility who can balance our budgetary goals while providing equitable salaries for town employees. Dennis Galvin, with his experience in executive level management and municipal planning, is that person.
