Do Grocery Stores Near Westford Carry Pink Slime?

While we always are looking to answer local questions posed by our readers, today's bonus "You Asked, Patch Answers" will be joined with our weekly grocery prices column as a follow up to yesterday's column by Kristina Greene about Westford's Public Schools .

Currently, the USDA does not require labeling of ground meat using "pink slime", also known as lean finely textured beef, or LFTB, so we set out to ask whether any grocery stores in the Westford area use it in the ground meat they sell to customers.

While there's no way to independently verify it, representatives of the stores say almost uniformly that they either don't use LFTB anymore, or that they never have.

Here's a list of prices we found for ground beef at each of the stores, separated by their percentage of lean meat versus fat content.
