Drowning At Nantucket Beach

A man reportedly drowned at a Nantucket beach Wednesday in choppy seas whipped up by Hurricane Gert.

NANTUCKET, MA — A swimmer drowned on Nantucket Wednesday in choppy seas whipped up by Hurricane Gert. NBC Boston reported the swimmer was a man and the incident happened on Nobadeer Beach. Seas were choppy Wednesday from Hurricane Gert and the National Weather Service issued rip current alerts and high surf advisories for the Cape Cod and the islands.

Rough surf is also expected Thursday.

"Swim (within) sight of a life guard and don't swim alone," the National Weather Service-Boston said in a statement.
