Open Door Theater Presents "Once On This Island"

Westford Residents to Perform in Open Door Theater’s “Once On This Island”

April 1-10 at Dragonfly Theater, RJ Grey Junior High, Acton

 From April 1-10, 2011 Open Door Theater will present the musical “Once On This Island” at the Dragonfly Theater at RJ Grey Junior High, 16 Charter Road, Acton.  Westford actress Lauren Cantos Smith will portray the lead character of “Ti Moune,” a peasant girl who falls in love with a rich boy from the other side of her island.  Westford residents Susan Brierley, Pamela Ryba and Maris Ryba will also be featured along with a talented cast and crew of over 100 actors, dancers & singers from Acton and surrounding communities.  “Once On This Island” is appropriate for audiences of all ages.  Performances will take place April 1, 8, & 9 at 7:30 pm, and April 2, 3, 9, and 10 at 2:30 pm.

“Once On This Island” is a captivating tale of romance between a peasant girl and a rich city boy from the other side of the island whom she saves from a terrible tropical storm.  This tropical legend is set on a Caribbean island and includes a menagerie of delightful animals, young love and four fantastical gods who guide the lives of the star-crossed lovers.  Once On This Island delivers melody, love and joy in tropical abundance. With book and lyrics by Lynn Aherns and Stephen Flaherty, “Once On This Island” garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score.

Open Door Theater of Acton is a non-profit family-oriented community theater company that has been creating learning experiences through theater for adults, children, and people with special needs since it was founded in 1980.
