The Lions would answer with their first point on the board 58 seconds later, but couldn't capitalize on a tripping call that gave them a key power play going into the third period.
A shorthanded fifth goal for the Grey Ghosts 48 seconds into the third would remove all doubt in the outcome, although Chelmsford's Billy Kamenides added a consolation goal with three minutes and 28 seconds left in the third period.
The Lions will take to the ice again on Thursday in Waltham at DCR Veterans Memorial Rink in Waltham at 7 p.m. while the Ghosts head to Tyngsboro for a home contest against Andover on Wednesday night.
