Grey Ghosts Fall To Top Ranked Lexington

The loss marks the end of the 2011 boys' tennis season at Westford Academy.

The top seeded Lexington Minutemen swept ninth seeded Westford Academy 5-0 at home on Monday,  not dropping  a single set in their outser of the Grey Ghosts (11-7) from the MIAA Division 1 North Sectional Tournament.

LHS will continue sectional tournament play in the Quarterfinal round at home against No. 4 Andover High School on Wednesday. The two teams already met once this season, a 4-1 victory for the Minutemen.

In the No. 1 singles position, Ben Tso defeated Westford Academy’s Brandon Holman 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2, the Minutemen’s Mark Pronchick defeated Kevin Chen 6-2, 6-3, in what was the closest singles match of the afternoon.

David Herrera rounded out the singles competition in the No. 3 slot with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Westford’s Chris Alto.

There was more of the same in the doubles competition. Lexington won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, behind Dan Maffa and Preston Wu. They defeated the Grey Ghosts’ Jameson Bigham and Corey Yu.

Finally, at No. 2 doubles, the Minutemen’s Jonah Bader and Harry Nichols defeated Henry Jiang and David Colomb 6-2, 6-0.

The Ghosts end their season at 11-7 while Lexington climbs to 21-1.
