Grey Ghosts Pull Out Big Softball and Baseball Wins in Morning Games

 

The Boston Red Sox couldn't pull out their Monday morning matinee earlier this week, but things went a little better for the Grey Ghosts as they stepped up to the plate for some April Vacation baseball and softball on Wednesday.

Westford Academy earned an 9-0 softball win against Waltham while the baseball team simultaneously defeated Concord-Carlisle 6-1 only a few hundred feet away.

The softball team finished first, as sophomore Christine Raymond scattered seven hits and struck out four without a walk in her shutout complete game victory, and she also grabbed three hits at the plate along with sophomore Emily Chateauneuf.

Meanwhile the Ghosts' baseball win against the visiting Crusaders was a relief after their heartbreaking extra innings home loss to Westborough the previous day.

John Troy pitched six spotless innnings to follow William Alden's eight from the previous day, but on Wednesday the Westford bats provided some support, putting five runs across the plate in a third inning that saw nine men come to the plate.

Although the Ghosts have improved since a barrage of errors caused headaches earlier in the year against and , a pair of fielding miscues allowed Concord-Carlisle to put a run across the plate in the seventh.

Westford Academy head coach Corey Roman knows that his club will need to correct this weakness if they have any shot at the Dual County League pennant this year.

"It's going to be a tight race with Acton, (Lincoln-Sudbury), Boston Latin and Newton South playing well," said Roman "It's going to be a dogfight until the end."

Both teams will travel on Friday, with the baseball team going to Waltham and the softball team facing Bedford.
