Homicide Charge Dropped in 2012 Crash That Killed Westford Man

Charges have been dropped against a man involved in a 2012 crash that killed 32-year-old Westford resident Kurt Kelly.

Jeffrey Plante, 37, of Newburyport, was driving north on Interstate 495 in Methuen when his vehicle veered across the median and struck Kelly’s vehicle in the southbound side of the highway. Kelly was killed; Plante was seriously injured.

Plante was charged with motor vehicle homicide and other charges.

The Associated Press reported last week those charges were dropped. Plante passed out and suffered a “cardiac episode” in the moments leading up to the crash, his attorney said.

Kelly was married and had an infant son at the time of his death. A memorial fund was established in his name.
