LITTLETON, MA: Littleton High School is ready to go with their Fall play, Durang/Durang, a series of one-act plays by satirist Christopher Durang. The production runs November 17 and 18 at 7:30pm; November 19 at 3:00pm at Littleton Middle School, 55 Russell Street. This production is rated PG-13. Tickets are $10 general admission.
As a Director in schools, you rarely find an opportunity when you have an amazingly talented bunch of students combined with the ability to take on stimulating work like Christopher Durang's “Durang/Durang,” noted production advisor JulieAnn Govang. “Ultimately, I chose these plays for the challenges that they bring, as well as for the wealth of what students can learn from the content itself. These students have truly embraced Durang’s absurdist style and flare for the ridiculous, trusting in the Playwright's outstanding writing, trusting in their student Directors guidance, and trusting in the humor of the genre. Through the work we’re doing on this show, we have been able to touch on much more than your “typical” comedy. There’s melodrama, parody, farce, slapstick – it is theater on so many levels! We are offering up larger-than-life characters, in crazy scenarios, completely taken to their limits. There are a few extreme subjects, but presented in poignant (yet hilarious) ways. Says TheaterWeek, ‘With the help of Mr. Durang, the fine art of parody has returned to theater in a production you can sink teeth and mind into, while also laughing like an idiot.’ That sums up perfectly what the Drama Club is setting out to present – an evening of theater that will be edgy and maybe surprising at times – but always ridiculously funny.
Directed by student directors and featured in “Durang/Durang” are an ensemble cast including Littleton High School students Anushka Ahuja, Katie Asselin, Abby Berry, Sarah Beltrami, Nicole Biagioni, Anna Bradshaw, Zac Carelli (Director), Madison Crory, Leah Dennehy, Brian Dupuis, Nate Farl, Jeremiah Farrell, Phaedra Ferrini (Director), Madison Feudo, Gordon Gamuchian, Emma Hamilton (Director), Olivia Hamilton, Pauline Huynh, Julia Johnston, Sophie Kelly, Ryan Kitain, Mary McCloskey, Izzy Medina, Riley Mullen, Madelyn O’Meara, Ashleigh O’Neill (Director), Calvin Rambacher, Lexi Rock (Director), Anson Staples, Liv Steeman, Katie Stratton, Kyra Toomey (Director), Hannah Wilkinson and Kaitlin Yandik.
