Local Police Officer Caught Sleeping in Cruiser

The officer was suspended; the controversy started after a citizen photographed the cop curled up with a pillow in the back of his cruiser.


A nap has turned into a nightmare for one Lowell police officer.

A citizen last week snapped a photo of the male officer curled up with a pillow in the back of his cruiser. He was suspended pending an investigation.

Lowell Police Superintendent William Taylor called the incident “extremely embarrassing.”

“This behavior will not be tolerated,” Taylor said in a statement.

He did not name the officer.

The controversy started after the citizen submitted the photo to the Lowell Sun, which published it.


Continued Taylor, “This is not representative of the hardworking and dedicated men and women of the Lowell Police Department. In the past two years the Lowell Police have made great progress toward our goal of making Lowell a safer city. Two consecutive years of crime reductions, nationally recognized community policing programs, and a commitment to achieving accreditation are the true measure of the employees I am proud to work alongside.

“The citizens of Lowell and my brother and sister officers deserve better.”
