MA Child Rapist Arrested On New Charges Days Before Release

SHIRLEY, MA – A 70-year-old convicted child rapist will be arraigned Wednesday on new charges, days before his expected release from prison. Wayne Chapman has been held at MCI-Shirley since 1977, when he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for luring two Lawrence boys into the woods and sexually assaulting them.

Prosecutors argued for his continued incarceration as a "sexually dangerous person" after he completed his sentence in 2007. He petitioned for a review this year and was determined by two psychologists to no longer be a danger.

Now Chapman faces charges of indecent exposure, lewd, wanton and lascivious acts and open and gross lewdness and lascivious behavior stemming from two alleged incidents at the prison on June 3 and 4, according to the Massachusetts Department of Corrections.

An attorney for Chapman's victims filed another bid on Monday to block his release.
