MA Child Rapist Indicted, Exposed Himself To Prison Workers: DA

Wayne Chapman, convicted of child rape 40 years ago, was charged days before his release.

SHIRLEY, MA – A 70-year-old convicted child rapist has been indicted by a Middlesex County grand jury in connection with two alleged incidents at MCI-Shirley earlier this month. Wayne Chapman was charged days before his expected release from prison after serving 40 years for luring two Lawrence boys into the woods and sexually assaulting them.

Chapman is accused of exposing himself to prison staff and masturbating in full view of DOC employees and nurses on June 3 and 4. He faces new charges of open and gross lewdness and lewd, wanton and lascivious acts. As a result of the indictment, he will also be charged as a habitual criminal.

Chapman was sentenced to 30 years in prison in 1977 and held after prosecutors in 2007 argued for his continued incarceration as a "sexually dangerous person." He petitioned for a review this year and was determined by two psychologists to no longer be a danger.
