SOMERVILLE, MA – A 19-year-old man was arrested Monday night after allegedly posting flyers with racist messages on them and spray-painting swastikas in Westford. Police responded to the area of Elm and Birch roads and found multiple flyers and a swastika painted on a stop sign and a box spring in the Nabnassett area, according to a statement.

Officers pulled over a car identified by a resident as possibly being connected. They allegedly found flyers, a swastika stencil, spray paint and a bottle of alcohol, police said. The driver, Lowell resident George Carty, was arrested and charged with two counts of tagging and one count of being a minor in possession of alcohol.

"The Westford Police take great pride in the community and do not look upon this incident lightly," police said in a statement. "We believe all of the material has been removed at this time, and encourage the community to report any findings the Westford Police Department."
