Massive Lowell Fire: 40+ Displaced

A fire in Lowell on Central Street Monday displaced at least 40 people and heavily damaged an apartment building.

LOWELL, MA — A massive fire at a Lowell apartment complex Monday displaced at least 40 people, though no one was hurt. The fire broke out in the 900-block of Central Street at about 2:30 p.m. and hit three alarms. Firefighters from Westford, Chelmsford, Billerica, Tyngsborough and Lawrence were dispatched to help Lowell firefighters battle the flames.

The flames were extinguished by about 5 p.m. At one point, firefighters were ordered out of the structure due to collapse concerns.
