Blue Lightning 22
Minty Fresh 21
The last game of the season proved to be one of the year’s most exciting. Early on, it looked like the Blue Lightning would cruise to victory, led by Elizabeth Deloia’s six points in the first few minutes. But with a feverish determination, the Minty Fresh battled back to stay within five at the end of the half, paced by Erika Waterhouse’s matching six points.
The second half saw the Minty Fresh climb back not only to tie the game, but actually to take the lead with only a few minutes left. Baskets from McKenna Watson, Joyce Downey, and Ally Rohlfs evened things out for the Blue Lightning while points from Christine Frechette, Lauren Canha, Tanu Kulkarni, Waterhouse, and Kene Orakwue helped force this one into overtime.
Overtime didn’t disappoint as the Minty Fresh took the lead, 21-20, with a free throw from Makena Waterhouse. However, Ally Rohlfs basket down low with less than forty seconds to go proved to be the game winner, giving the Blue Lightning an all important win heading into the playoffs.
