Teen Drowns At Westford Quarry
The 17-year-old died Tuesday after going underwater while swimming with friends at Merrill's Quarry.

WESTFORD, MA – A teenage boy drowned Tuesday at Merrill's Quarry in Westford, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's office. The teen was swimming with a group of three friends when he went underwater around 11:45 a.m. His friends attempted to save him after seeing him go under, the DA said.
A responding officer also tried to find him but was unsuccessful. Dive teams pulled the teen from water that was about 30 feet deep around 1:15 p.m., according to authorities. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Though swimming is prohibited at the quarry, police told NBC's Perry Russom trespassing has been a problem since the 2012 Adam Sandler movie "Grown Ups 2," which filmed scenes there. A 26-year-old man drowned in 2013 and police have issued warnings over the years about the dangers of swimming at the quarry, threatening the public with ticketing and even arrest.
