Nabnasset School Students

They collected nonrecyclable items to raise money for their school system.

Last month, Nabnasset Elementary School students.

They collected potato chip bags, candy wrappers, and drink pouches -- items that otherwise would've ended up in a landfill -- for a unique "Upcycle It!" recycling program.

The items were sent to TerraCycle, a New Jersey-based company that turns them into purses, notebooks, and other items. In turn, the company agreed to pay two cents for each nonrecyclable item collected. So far, more than $1,000 has been raised.
