Being a team captain is obviously more than just a title, but at Westford Academy now there is a seminar to help young student athletes deal with the responsibility and pressure of the job.
Westford Academy athletic director Dan Twomey announced that just over five dozen students participated in the first ever Westford Academy Captain’s Academy last week.

The Academy dealt with aspects of leadership in general as well as expectations that the athletes will have to face as captains of their respective teams in the Grey Ghosts program.
More information on the program can be found at the Westford Academy athletics home page.
Westford Academy Grad Performs Well at Open Water Championship
Recent Westford Academy graduate Jimmy Boretti finished in the top half of the pack in the 5 kilometer swim competition at last month’s 2011 USA Swimming Open Water Nationals in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Boretti, a two-time Grey Ghost captain who now tutors local youth swimmers, finished only six minutes behind the eventual winner with a time of 59:50.61, but could only manage a 44th place finish due to the depth of this year’s field.
Westford Youth Lacrosse Seeks Help on Field Funding
Westford Youth Lacrosse is on track with its plans to install new lacrosse fields, but still needs a push to meet their final fundraising goals.
So far $2.2 million of the $2.525 million goal has been reached, with the remainder needed for the hopeful completion of the Nutting Road fields later this fall.
More information on how to donate to the program can be found at the Westford Youth Lacrosse website or by contacting Gus Bickford at 978-692-0012.
