Newton South Toppled By Seven Westford Touchdowns

The new quarterbacking tandem of Justin Mount and Lucas LeBleu combined for three passing touchdowns, with LeBleu connecting with Mount on two of them.

Those following 's season to this point already knew how offensively dynamic they were, but last night's 48-14 home win against Newton South also showed their versatility.

Largely overshadowed in Alex Eaton's 313 yard game against Groton-Dunstable was the fact that the Grey Ghosts had through the air.

That was a facet of their game they aimed to remedy this week, and with four receptions for just under 100 yards, three of which resulting in scores, it appears that transition was successful; a success in spite of the absence of regular staring quarterback Troy Faretra, who fell last week with a separated shoulder.

"We can't be a one dimensional team," said Westford Academy head coach Rich McKenna. "We have to have to have a balanced attack, because when it comes to the Dual County League, we're not going to be able to just roll over everyone."

While the Grey Ghosts may not be able to roll over everyone, they certainly were able to roll against the Tigers in their Dual County league opener with little trouble, scoring four touchdowns on their five first half drives.

And thanks to the loss of Faretra, junior Justin Mount was able to take part in all four first half scores, running in the first, throwing the third to Nicholas DiBennedetto, and recieving the others from sophomore Lucas LeBleu.

Mount's dominance in the first half was echoed by an encore Eaton performance in the second, as the standout tailback added another three touchdowns of his own, including a 90 yard kickoff return to seal the victory.

Newton South was able to get two consolation touchdowns later on from Jimmy Li on the ground and Ethan Meyer in the air. Still, the Tigers' inability in capitalizing early in situations such as their first drive on defense, where they forced a punt that was recovered by Westford's Eric Cajolet, set the tone on a night that eventually saw four Newton South turnovers.

"I don't think we were ready to play from the start, we made too many mistakes, we kept on shooting ourselves in the foot," said Newton South head coach Ted Dalicandro. "We made them punt, but we gave it right back and we gave them a short field, we just can't afford to make those mistakes."

The Grey Ghosts (3-2) will seek to continue their two game winning streak next week on the road against Concord-Carlisle, while Newton South (0-5) will look to bounce back against Weston.
