Plans Underway For New Solar Plant Near Route 3

The project, a joint initiative of North Andover-based Nexamp and Cathartes Private Investments, will produce over 4 megawatts of energy upon completion.

New England Real Estate Journal reports that the planned solar panel field near Exit 33 on Route 3 is well underway, with construction set to begin this fall.

The project, which at 22 acres would become Massachusetts' largest privately-owned solar plant, is a joint initiative of Cathartes Private Investments and Nexamp, a locally based solar developer that partnered with .

"We strive to develop 'green' commercial and residential properties," said Cathartes principal Jim Goldenberg. "We are especially proud to build a solar facility that will provide long-lasting local, state and regional benefits through its clean, renewable energy."

Construction is expected to take place in two phases, with each phase utilizing 7,000 solar panels and producing 2.2 megawatts of power once completed.

Cathartes expects to launch the project with an on-site event in October.
