Poon and Marrkand Set Westford Academy Swimming Records

While the Grey Ghosts were only able to finish third as a whole, freshman Brian Poon remained undefeated on the year, winning the 100-yard butterfly and backstroke in what was the final regular season meet on Friday in Sudbury.

Poon broke two records in the individual wins as he, Charlie Goodwin and Tim Edison were named Dual County League All-Stars following the meet.

On the girls’ side Jen Marrkand also finished her season undefeated, copying Poon in setting school records in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke.

Marrkand teamed up with Kelly Huber, Courtney Martin and Tori Weinstock to win the 200-yard medley in 1:50.27, a race they have not lost since being named All-Americans last summer.

The four were named Dual County League All-Stars along with Mara Tynan, who finished second in the 500-yard freestyle and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle.
