Westford Girls' Youth Basketball won't be back in action until 2012, but here's a recap of their pre-Christmas week action.

Periwinkle Platypi 31
The Yellow Submarines managed to overcome a poor shooting night to beat the Periwinkle Platypi 32-31 on a last second steal and layup. The oddly named Platypi played tough defense all game even though they were limited to 6 players. The Subs were led in scoring by the sisters Bushey (Lauren and Leah) and twin terrors Chrysikos (Taryn and Jillian). Rachel Templeton added two points. The Platypi were led by the scoring and rebounding of Taylor Freud. Catherine Darin chipped in with 6 points. Emily Dias, Alaina Baker, Elise Paugh and Hayley Veilette all added baskets.
Butter 36
Hot Shots 25
A very intense and well played game by both teams with strong offense and defense. The Hot Shots’ Sarah Brunelle, Haley Flaherty-Dawson and Danielle Victory all scored three-pointers. The Butters’ Stacy Shackleton, Abby Hyslip, Julie Bransfield and Richa Kaul were solid on offense. The Hot Shots Alecia Razylowski, Lauren Marple, Jackie Joncas, Michi Downey, Meghan Carlysle, Kelly Bray and Sarah Boughan were strong defenders. For Butter Janice Lin, Alexis Jacobson, Rachel Harkins and Tasneem Bhindarwala were also strong on defense.
Black Mambas 35
Cool Blue 20
The Black Mambas edged the Cool Blue 35-20 in a game tighter than the score reflects. The Black Mambas were led by Sam Kelly with 10 points and Amanda Brooks with 13. Cool Blue scoring leaders were Breanne Sullivan with 4 and Brook Mains with 6 points. Defense leaders for the Cool Blue were Theresa Miceli and Kristine Reny. Black Mambas defense played well led by Laura Shapiro and Lizzy Muller. Other scorers were Corey Mains with 4 for Cool Blue and Courtney Kennedy with 2 for the Black Mambas.
Golden Snitches 33
Crocodile Hunters 30
The Crocodile Hunters played tenacious defense with Katie Campbell along with the Casey Twins ( Megan and Jessica). The Golden Snitches were able to steal the game with key plays by Jenna Klinka and Tianna Habosian
Lucky Leprechauns 31
Da Bullz 15
The Lucky Leprechauns were led by Molly Aulson and Kelly Geraghty on offense. Becky O’Neil and Mackenzie Brewer powered the strong Leprechaun defense. Kayla Flanagan and Shannon Harris were strong offensively for Da Bullz.
Da Bullz 30
Hot Green Chili Peppers 26
It was a great game between the two teams. Rebecca Shepherd of the Hot Green Chili Peppers played excellent defense and also scored 8 points. Also Kristen Leary came up big on offense for the Peppers. For Da Bullz Kayla Flanagan dominated the boards scoring 12 points with Lauren Cullen and Shannon Harris playing outstanding defense. All in all both teams played an exciting game right down to the buzzer!
Ocean Spray 28
Crocodile Hunters 25
Ocean Spray won a close duel with great team defense and rebounding. Crocodile Hunters hung tough until the final buzzer making some key baskets at the end. Karina Camargo led OS with 9 points including 2 baskets off of steals at the end. Hailey MacDonald added 6 with the rest of the scoring balanced across the team. Katie Campbell led the hunters with 8.
