Rachel Secrist Leads Westford Girls Lax to First Win
Westford Academy beat Newton South, 9-5, on Tuesday.
The Westford Academy girls lacrosse team beat Newton-South 9-5 Tuesday for its first win of the season.
After host Newton-South opened up the scoring, WA's Rachel Secrist hit paydirt to tie the game. After Newton moved up 3-1, Secrist struck again, sprinting half the length of the field with the ball to cut the deficit to 3-2.
“Rachel is a fast player one-on-one,” said WA coach Julie Olivier. “She gets the ball, she gets in gear, and no one can touch her.”

And with a 1:10 left in the half, WA's Taylor Freud scored, tying the game. That would be part of seven unanswered goals the Grey Ghosts would tally en route to their 9-5 victory. During that stretch, Secrist would earn a hat trick.
“We told them they weren’t playing the way they usually play,” Olivier commented to her team before the scoring streak. “We said pick it up, get into fast gear, make some passes, and they put it together.”
