Slippery Morning Commute; Afternoon's to be Worse
Snow and ice likely to snarl the afternoon commute.

Today's storm has been worse than initially predicted.
About seven inches of snow -- and as much as 10 inches -- is expected to accumulate by this afternoon in Westford, according to the National Weather Service.
It gets worse. The snow will turn to freezing rain this afternoon, encasing roads in dangerous sheets of ice just in time for the evening commute.

The combination of snow and ice also could tear down trees and utility poles, leading to power outages, NWS said.
The Westford Highway Department currently has crews out on the roads.

Driving conditions this morning were horrendous in town. On Interstate 495, traffic was moving at about 20 mph near Westford and Chelmsford. It's expected to be even slower for the evening commute.
Schools are closed today, though town offices are open.
