St. Mark's Blesses New Doors

The new doors were recently installed, and the Rev. Suzanne Wade, rector of St. Mark's, blessed them on Sunday, April 26, 2015.

On Sunday April 26th St. Mark’s Church in Westford celebrated two events: the Feast of St. Mark, their patron saint, and the dedication of new doors for the front of the church. The new doors were recently installed, and the Rev. Suzanne Wade, rector of St. Mark’s, blessed them in front of the congregation at the end of the service. The doors feature two beautiful, matching stained glass windows with a flying dove (depicting God’s peace) superimposed over a cross and radiant beams emanating from the cross. Sue Duran, a long-term parishioner at the church, is also an artist, and designed the windows. She said “I wanted to have a window that would inspire us to spread God’s peace in our world.” The company that manufactured the doors said that their employees felt similarly moved by the simple beauty of the windows.

The Rev. Wade said that although St. Mark’s is an Episcopal church in the Protestant faith, “we welcome anyone regardless of prior religious background or even if they have not been to church before.” St. Mark’s programs include worship on Sunday mornings and so much more. Once a month, we prepare and serve a meal for homeless individuals and low-income families at the St. Paul’s Soup Kitchen in Lowell. We are a member organization within the Merrimack Valley Project, promoting social justice throughout the region. We hold food collections for the Westford Community Food Pantry. We team up with other area churches to sponsor the Annual Greater Lowell Walk for Hunger, raising money for eight different charitable organizations. Every year in February, St. Mark’s hosts an Annual Chocolate Festival, and the church donates much of the proceeds to charity.

We are a welcoming community that provides opportunities for spiritual growth, community service, and fellowship for children, youth, and adults. Please join us to worship, and bear witness to our good works with our neighbors. More information can be found on St. Mark’s Website at www.st-mark.org.
