State Trooper Medflighted After Accidentally Shooting Himself with Shotgun
It happened at a local State Police operations center Tuesday morning.

A state trooper was injured after an accidental shooting Tuesday morning.
The incident happened at the Emergency Vehicle Operations Center in Ayer.
The trooper was loaded into a medical helicopter and flown to UMass Medical Center in Worcester.

State Police said he shot himself in the leg with a shotgun while transporting the weapon from his old cruiser to a new one. The weapon was loaded with buckshot. Police said his injuries are not life-threatening.
“The investigation into the exact facts and circumstances of the discharge, and compliance with department weapons policy, is ongoing,” State Police said in a statement.

He was identified as a sergeant who’s 51 years old and has been on the force since 1987. His name was not released.
