Tyngsborough police said someone stole a Mini Cooper in Hampton Falls, New Hampshire then drove it into the Merrimack River.

TYNGSBOROUGH, MA — Someone stole a white Mini Cooper in Southern New Hampshire Wednesday night then drove it into the Merrimack River in Tyngsborough, according to police. A University of Massachusetts Lowell crew team practicing on the river Thursday morning noticed the car partially submerged in the water and called authorities, according to Tyngsborough police Chief Richard Howe.

"The car appeared to have been freshly dumped," Howe said in a statement. "The keys were still in the ignition, in the 'on' position, and some of the electronics were still activated." The vehicle is a 2010 model.
Howe said the vehicle was reported stolen out of Hampton Falls Wednesday at about 6 p.m. It was found in the river near Pawtucket Boulevard.
