The New Recycling Guide is Here!
This is a great time to refresh yourself on the recycling rules and add to add to what you recycle.

The 2012-2013 Westford Recycling guide should have arrived in your mailbox a couple of weeks ago. Have you refreshed your memory on what you can and can’t recycle?
There are no big changes to recycling this year. However, I did notice a new way to keep up to date with the latest in recycling news. The Westford Recycling Commission (WRC) is now on Facebook

This is a great time to refresh yourself on what can and can't be recycled curbside. A good way to start is to look at everything you toss for the next week and make sure you are putting it in the right place. You might be able to recycle it elsewhere. The WRC is a fantastic resource for all things recycling - curbside or not.

Everything recyclable can go into the SAME container. Westford has been a single stream recycler for about four years. No need to separate paper from plastic from glass anymore.
If you need another recycling bin, there are several options .
Westford recycles ALL plastics labeled #1 - #7. However, no Styrofoam of any kind, even if it has a #6 on it.
You should place your recycling barrel on one side of your driveway and trash one the other.
If you have a recycling toter (like the one pictured, or the green ones that you can purchase) place it facing out. This way the recycling truck can grab it an empty the bin without the operator leaving his seat. Have you ever watched this?
Electronics can be dropped off at one of 3 yearly collections held by the WRC in March, June and September. If you miss one of these, check out the WRC website for alternatives.
Latex paint containers are NOT considered hazardous waste and can be disposed of in the trash. Let the paint dry out or use “waste paint hardener” to absorb liquid then put in regular trash.
Every other year, the WRC holds a hazardous waste collection. One will be held this year on November 3. Watch the WRC website and Facebook page for more details as the date approaches.
