Things Looking Pretty for Westford Cosmetic Laser Maker

Cosmetic device maker Cynosure reported a big jump in revenue recently. It's a sign the economy is improving.

In a sign the local economy is improving, Cynosure -- an international cosmetic equipment maker with a headquarters in Westford -- reported a big jump in revenue recently.

That news, coupled with the national unemployment rate in February falling below 9 percent for first time in almost two years, bodes well for a sustained recovery in the region following economic collapse.

Cynosure, which operates out of an office park on Carlisle Road, reported revenue increased 16 percent in the fourth quarter of 2010, according to a company statement.

The company makes lasers for hair removal, skin improvement, and scar removal -- among equipment.

"Although financing remains difficult for many aesthetic practitioners, the relationships we have established with certain financial institutions and third-party financing sources are gradually beginning to improve access to credit for our customers," said Cynosure President Michael Davin, in the statement.

The company recent made a "Cellulaze" machine heralded as the world's "first minimally invasive surgical device specifically designed for the long-term reduction of cellulite."

"We are excited about the future potential of these products to treat what we believe is a significantly underserved aesthetic indication that affects 85 percent of women over the age of 20," Davin said.
